The Spilling engine combines the thermodynamic benefits of the filling-controlled steam engine with the design features of a modern diesel engine. Its unique design is unparalleled and has made "the Spilling" one of the most durable and versatile power generators in the world.

The advantages of the Spilling steam engine are particularly significant in heat-driven back-pressure cycles or with varying steam output. This makes it ideal for small or middle-sized CHP units as well as for smaller biomass and waste heat power generation units, also often in conjunction with steam generators with moderate live steam parameters as well as with saturated steam boilers.
